10. Patti LaBelle: Some ‘Idol’ judges aren’t qualified

By The Associated Press. NEW YORK – Patti LaBelle thinks some people shouldn’t be on “American Idol” — and she’s not talking about the contestants. “Some of the judges, I don’t think they’re qualified to even judge,” she said in an interview Wednesday. The veteran R&B diva wouldn’t say which judge she thought was lacking on the hit Fox show, which has Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres picking America’s top singers. LaBelle said she was asked to be a judge on the series before Paula Abdul; a rep for the show had no comment on whether she was. LaBelle feels like the judges’ comments to the contestants are too mean. “The comments that were made, they could make you like wanna kill yourself,” the 65-year-old singer said. LaBelle’s advice to singing hopefuls: “If you believe in yourself, just go for it. What do you have to lose? And when people tell you ‘You can’t,’ you have to say, ‘I can.’”

9. Bern Nadette Stanis, The Real “Ar-teeste” from “Good Times”

By   It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Bern Nadette Stanis last suited up as Thelma on “Good Times.” The actress, now 56, says she continues to act whenever parts come along, but is also happy to indulge in her other pastime, writing books. Stanis is spending these days promoting her second book, “Situations 101: Relationships, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.” “I love being an author. I’m also a painter,” she says – to the shock of her “Good Times” co-star Jimmie Walker, who was sitting next to her. Stanis says she regularly paints in oils, and boasts that she’s much better than her fictional older brother, who admits he can’t paint a lick even though his character JJ was a talented “ar-teeste.” Whether it’s painting, writing, dancing or acting, Stanis says her main focus is to just go with the flow. “I just keep doing things that I feel driven to do,” she says. “Things keep evolving and I go with it.” For more information on Stanis’ book, visit her Web site:

7. Allen Iverson Leaves Basketball To Take Care Of Sick Daughter

By The Associated Press. The Sixers announced yesterday that Iverson will not be with the team for the remaining three games on its West Coast swing and that he will be away from the team indefinitely after that for personal reasons. A source familiar with the situations of Iverson and the Sixers said that, in this case, “indefinitely,” could mean the remainder of the season. ”The team is concerned about the distraction this could bring, but everyone understands it’s most important for Allen to take care of his family,” the source said.Iverson’s 4-year daughter, Messiah, is suffering from an undisclosed illness that kept Iverson away from the team for five games before the All-Star break. Iverson returned for three games following the hiatus, but informed the team after Saturday’s loss in Chicago that he was leaving to again be with his family. Iverson has said that doctors in Atlanta, where his wife and five children live, couldn’t find answers as to what ails Messiah, only that many tests that were taken had all come back negative. Last week, Iverson said he was bringing his daughter to Philadelphia so that she could be examined by doctors at Children’s Hospital.

6. Whitney Houston Tour has Fans Asking for Refunds

By  There have been multiple reports in the past week calling Whitney Houston’s overseas tour performances a complete disaster and that she’s been asked to postpone some dates due to her “fragile condition.” The latest complaints come from Australian fans, who apparently watched as the diva flubbed her way through a concert in Brisbane on Monday night. One observer is reporting that the 46-year-old “took a break after just two songs, brought her brother onstage to hit her high notes and slurped from a water bottle through a closing performance of ‘I Will Always Love You.’” Monday’s performance at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre was the first of several Australian stops on Houston’s “Nothing But Love” comeback tour. On Tuesday (Feb. 23), concert promoter Andrew McManus defended the singer against the many ticket purchasers calling for a refund. “It was not a train wreck,” McManus told Agence France-Presse of Houston’s performance. “She was hitting most of the notes; yes, her throat was a little croaky. Her health is fine, but she’s also not 22 years of age anymore.” According to concert reviews cited by the AFP, Houston also appeared disoriented during the show, relied heavily upon backup singers and struggled to remember the names of her band members. “This show was like watching a slow and painful death of a living legend,” a Courier-Mail reader wrote in.

5. Judge Joe Brown Sued in ‘Nookie’ Case

By TMZ Staff. TV’s Judge Joe Brown is being sued by a man who was once a plaintiff on the show — a man who claims Joe falsely accused him on the show of trying to pay a woman for sex.
The plaintiff, Mark Schweninger, sued a woman on “Judge Joe Brown” for $7,500, claiming he loaned her money but she didn’t pay him back. According to Schweninger’s lawsuit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Brown said on the show, “You were just trying to get nookie.”
The suit goes on to define “nookie” as “an indecent sexual term for a woman’s private parts and for sexual intercourse.” Schweninger also says Brown called him a “sucker,” which he claims drew catcalls from the peanut gallery. In addition, Schweninger alleges he was defrauded because he was led to believe Brown was a real California judge … but he is not.
So far, no comment from His Honor or CBS., but we know it’s SOP in court shows to have litigants sign a binding arbitration agreement in which litigants on the show give up legal recourse once the gavel goes down.

4.  Fla. Woman Sues 50 Cent in NYC Over Her Sex Video

By The Associated Press. NEW YORK (AP) A Florida woman has sued rapper 50 Cent in New York City, claiming he unlawfully distributed her homemade sex video over the Internet after editing himself into it as a wig-wearing narrator. It also claims the rapper appears in the video wearing a wig and robe and can be heard narrating throughout. The rapper’s real name is Curtis Jackson. His lawyer hasn’t responded to a phone message seeking comment.

3. Jayson Williams gets 5 years in fatal NJ shooting.

By David Porter, Associated Press Writer. SOMERVILLE, N.J. – Former NBA star Jayson Williams was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday for fatally shooting a hired limo driver in 2002, ending an eight-year legal odyssey by tearfully apologizing to the victim’s family. He will be eligible for parole in 18 months. Williams, avoiding a retrial on a reckless manslaughter count that deadlocked the jury at his 2004 trial, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault in the death of Costas Christofi on Feb. 14, 2002. At the same 2004 trial, he was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter but convicted on four counts of covering up the shooting. The sentences on the assault and cover-up counts will run concurrently. State Superior Court Judge Edward Coleman went along with a plea agreement that spelled out the five-year prison sentence and the potential for Williams to be released as early as summer 2011.

2. Jimmie “JJ” Walker on Relationship with Ann Coulter.

By In an interview, Jimmie Walker went on and on about the love he has for his best friend Ann Coulter. ”Using words like “adorable” and “sweet” to describe the right wing talk show host, known for using racist rhetoric in discussing her conservative views, Walker brushes off her polarizing antics as part of her pundit persona. “She does the Ann stuff,” Walker concedes. “But she’s just a beautiful person. ”So does that mean Walker shares her political views? “No, you know, Ann does what she does when she works for Fox, obviously. But she’s not just Fox,” he says. “She’s other things, too. She’s extremely bright, she’s beautiful and I’m honored to have anything to do with her.”Walker lavished his repeated praise with a straight face and appeared to be serious about their relationship. His “Good Times” co-star Bern Nadette Stanis was sitting next to him during the interview and co-signed his sentiments, even going so far to say she believes Jimmie and Coulter are actually dating.“The best of friends, truly, they are close,” Stanis said, although sounding a bit tongue-in-cheek. She then whispered to Walker, “I was gonna say what you call her – but you can’t say it on TV.”

    Nice list –
As for Story #1 – Appearances may be deceiving but hope Ms. Frazier isn’t GHETTO PERSONIFIED!!
As for story #2 – I see that JJ found a way to get even uglier over the years.

  2. Trisha Says:

Well, #1 has me torn between jogging tomorrow or eating a huge burger with fries….health vs safety.
#2 give me the worst mental picture i’ve ever had….they both must have lost a bet.

  3. Joi :-) Says:

    Good Morning All. :-)

    Great list Leon! :-)

First let me say LOL @ U Shack and Trisha! :-) Now, as far as story #1, COULDN’T THEY HAVE FOUND A BETTER PICTURE OF MS. FRAZIER??? IF that was my story, i’d tell it, but U WOULD NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF ME WITH MY GUT OWWWT!!!! Some things are just better off “said”. I think we could have gotten the same visual of her/her injuries, without the gut profile. I have a few other comments regarding her pic., but i’ll just leave it at a “NO”!!!

Story #2. Ugh…… okay…???? I am not able to “see” them as a couple. I don’t know either one of them personally, and looks can be deceiving…. I guess! I’m just going to say “I don’t see it”!!! Is she using him for a “story”????? Is he using her for some type of ugh….. WHAT WOULD HE BE USING HER FOR??? That one baffles me!

With 50′s story. That seems false. Why would he do something like that? There are plenty of chicks who would willingly do a “tape” with him, and be very proud of themselves for doing so. There’s gotta be something else. But stranger things have happened….

Whitney Houston….. that saddens me! I LOVE WHITNEY!!! I hope that she can “recover” and get back to what her true calling is. Which is singing. (in my opinion). God be with u Whit! Get it together and come back. If u aren’t ready to do a full show, then don’t! Do a song or two. Don’t embarrass yourself. And where are her “folks”? (friends and fam.) There was not one person in her “camp” that saw that she wasn’t ready? And why didn’t they say something??? Maybe that’s why they sent her abroad. It’s not really sending her abroad… That’s sending her “OFFFFFFFFF”!!!!

Jayson Williams…. I remember watching his case on Court Tv. That’s a shame too. I hope that others learn that playing with guns is not a game! Altho, he didn’t get in trouble for taking someone’s life. He got in trouble for “covering it up”. Huh????? I would say to Jayson. HOUSE CLEAN!!!! If u/he hasn’t already. Altho, I’M SURE THAT THA FOLKS THAT HE THOUGHT WERE HIS FRIENDS ARE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND! And it goes both ways… Cuz if I was at someone’s house, and they shot someone. I’m leaving, and I’m gonna call the police. And as I’m leaving, I’d put my “friendship card”, on the counter. Don’t call me and I won’t call u! Do I have to mention that our friendship would be OVA!!!!!! Baller or no baller! Would that make me a snitch? If so SOOOOO WHAT!!!!! U gonna shoot me too? Yeah, I’m gonna need Jayson to sit in time out for that one…. Oh, wait a minute… He IS IN TIME OWWWT!!!

Have a great day ya’ll. And Leon, can’t wait for the next post. :-)

Oh, and Trisha… Have the burger, and workout. :-) I am! :-) Later ya’ll. :-)

  4. Leon Says:

    Awesome post Joi!!!

  5. Trisha Says:

Joi….I thought about the burger and the bullet…..i think i will get a bullet proof vest….when u think about when the time comes to undress its easy to take the vest off, the cheeseburger and fries moves to your stomach, behind and thighs….
