This Top 10 list is not to ridicule nor pass judgment. This list is to point out the seriousness of taking care of your tax obligations. With April 15th (The deadline for filing taxes), just a few days away, I’m sure that many of you, if not most of you, have already completed and filed your tax returns. For those of you who haven’t filed your taxes, it’s imperative that you do so by Thursday of this week. If you’re not ready and need more time, simply call your tax preparer or H & R Block and have them file for an extension on your behalf.  Keep in mind, as you check out the Top 10 list of Black Celebrity Tax Troubles, that if the IRS will go after celebrities, they will not hesitate to go after non-celebrities.

This is another unexpected list. Great job. If I had to pay taxes like that I would be smiling all the way to the tax office! That would mean that I would be very successful financially… I never would have guessed this top ten :-) I was surprised by a few people on this list like Bebe Winans, Terry McMillan, Dionne Warwick, and Toni Braxton.

  2. Margo Says:

They should not try living beyond their means just because they are celebrities doesn’t mean they all have to have a big million dollar home. The simple life is so much easier they will find out the hard way.

  3. Shack Says:

D@MN – I can see someone owing something in the thousands but how does one owe in the millions? Seemingly, they owed a smaller amount and then, over time w interest and penalties it kept growing.

With the exception of Wesley (whose latest film didn’t apparently do much) don’t think Dionne, BeBe or Sinbad have the capability to pay that much back the way their carees are going!

  4. Angé Taylor Says:

Most of these folks get no sympathy from me! If you make that kind of money, you should have some type of money savvy or at least enough of sense to hire a competent CPA or another type of accountant! Besides what is not being said, is that the IRS will work with you until they are blue in the face. You can get payment plans set up and even sometimes a reduction in your taxes owed! NOW…if that was the California Franchise Tax Borad, that would be a whole different story!

How they end up owing a lot is they are charged what they owe with interest. They are charge a penalty for being late, and they are charge interest on the penalty. Imagine if you are already late with a 12,000.00 payment…understand how the amount goes up and then you continously owe each and every year.

Yes, most of this folks get buck wild when they get some fame and money! Buy a million dollar plus mansions, when all they need is a three bedroom house. They own 4 Bentleys, 3 Mercedes, and lease a whole bunch more cars. Expensive hotes, flights, enoturages, $5000.00 weaves, etc! Did you hear how much T-Boz spent on just buying baby clothes? Just Ridiculous! Look at Nicolas Cage….all of the money he owes and is losing his house! That is another thing, when they started out, they were making bank, as their fame dwindles they are making LESS money but still spendling like they are in the limelight each and everyday!

Just look at how LisaRaye is acting on her new series…it makes you wonder where the common sense is….

  5. Lyn Says:

Taxes is something that none of us like to pay but wow they owe alot.

  6. Desiree Says:

Wow that’s incredible – I had no idea some of these people owed so much or at all. So what happens if you die and still owe the government money, like Redd Fox? Is someone now responsible for paying on his behalf?

  7. Leon Says:

Hey Desiree…if a person dies while still owing the IRS, the IRS will go after the estate (property, valuables, etc.) If the estate has no money, or not enough to pay off what is owed, then the IRS is unable to collect.

  8. Trisha Says:

Now I know what is holding up my refund. First thing I am going to buy when I am a famous celebrity is an accountant. Second thing is move to Monaco, they don’t have taxes.

  9. mike Says:

    No Joe Louis?

  10. Leon Says:

Mike, thanks for reminding me about Joe Louis. He definitely deserves to be on the list.
