This list features The Top 10 Black News Stories of the Week, ending Friday, April 30, 2010. Making headlines this week includes an adoption by a celebrity, a celebrity’s mom caught with drugs, a skinheads plot against President Obama, and a woman who didn’t like being called fat.

10. Actress Adopts Baby from New Orleans

She’s been in hibernation ever since news of her husband’s infidelity has dominated the headlines, but today Sandra Bullock reemerges – not only with an announced divorce from Jesse James, but with photos of the secret son she adopted back in January. “He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way,” Bullock tells People about her 3½ month-old son Louis Bardo Bullock. “It’s like he’s always been a part of our lives.” Bullock, 45, and James, 41, began the adoption process four years ago and brought Louis home in January but decided to keep the news to themselves until after the Oscars, People reports. Their close friends and family – including James’s children Sunny, 6, Jesse Jr., 12, and Chandler, 15 – all helped to keep the adoption a secret. But, Bullock and James ended up separating just 10 days after the March 7 Oscars following reports he had cheated. Bullock says she is now finalizing the adoption as a single parent. Bullock joins a small group of Hollywood celebs who have adopted Black children, like Steven Spielberg (son, Theo), Tom Cruise (son, Connor), Angelina Jolie(daughter Zahara) and Madonna (son and daughter, Mercy and David) Source, http://

9. If June Hearing Goes His Way, O.J. Simpson Could Get New Trial

(Taylor Media Services) The possibility of O.J. Simpson eventually being freed from prison on robbery charges moved a step closer to reality last week. The Nevada Supreme requested oral arguments in the conviction appeals of Simpson and co-defendant C.J. Stewart. The granting of oral arguments was good news for Simpson because the Nevada court seldom allows oral arguments. Thus, legal experts immediately began speculating the Court saw some merit in Simpson’s request that his conviction be overturned on grounds that the jury selection process was tainted in part because prosecutors excluded the only two African Americans in the jury pool. Simpson is currently serving a 9 to 33 sentence for allegedly robbing two sports memorabilia dealers of property which he claimed belonged to him. OralOral arguments have have been set for June 11th.

She was later released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to reappear in court for sentencing May 10 at North Carolina’s Robeson County District Court.

7. Ronald Isley Out of Jail, Recording New CD

R&B veteran Ronald Isley is fresh out of prison and headed back to the recording studio after serving a three-year sentence for tax evasion. In a recent radio interview, the Isley Brothers member said his next album will be an “all star” effort, featuring some of today’s popular acts as well as some veteran artists. The legendary performer also said that his time behind bars was challenging. “I was talking to young people and crying with them and people that were gonna be in there some years and that part really hurts,” Isley said, according to the Web site Singers Room. “They (inmates) looked up to me.” The singer said he was able to keep his spirits high by participating in music activities. “I was working at the chapel and I did gospel shows every week,” he says. “That kept me up.” Source-

6. Michael Jackson’s Mom Kicks Grandkids Out of Her House

By Ruth Manuel-LoganJackson clan matriarch, Katherine, has apparently had enough. The 79-year-old has allegedly shed her docile and passive granny demeanor and toughened up her heart. She wants to downsize her familial tribe, which has overtaken her estate. According to TMZ, Katherine has asked ex-daughter-in-law Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza and her four children to vacate the premises by next week. Oaziaza had an affair with Randy Jackson when he was married to Eliza Shaffe, and they produced a daughter, Genevieve. After Randy divorced Shaffe, he continued dating Oaziaza, who then gave birth to their son, Randy Jr., in 1991. The couple’s relationship ended in 1994. A year later, Oaziaza married Randy’s older brother Jermaine, and they had two sons, Jaafar and Jermajesty. Oaziaza also adopted a child with Jermaine named Donte (he does not reside in the home). There are currently seven grandchildren living at the Jackson San Fernando Valley, Calif., compound. Reportedly, Katherine’s change of heart was due to last month’s stun gun incident. Jaafar, 13, received a stun gun via mail and allegedly threatened Michael’s children, who also live at the compound, with the weapon. The incident resulted in an investigation by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services. Katherine is not putting Oaziaza and her four grandchildren out on the streets. She is moving the clan to a San Fernando Valley condo that is owned by the estate. The remaining grandkids, Paris, Prince and Blanket, who are Michael’s children, will remain at the mansion. 5. Oprah, Prince Among Time’s ‘Most Influential’ of 2010

Oprah Winfrey and music star Prince have made Time magazine’s list of the most influential artists of 2010, joining such celebrities as “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell, and actress Sandra Bullock. President Barack Obama, tennis star Serena Williams and and comedian Conan O’Brien also made the annual list compiled by the magazine’s senior editors. Winfrey, who was recognized for her achievements on Broadway, movies and publishing, has been on every list since it was started seven years ago — more than any other Time 100 designee. “There is no match for you in media history,” former talk show host Phil Donahue wrote about Winfrey in the magazine. “You are not only hot; you are cool: the Dream Girl for millions of ambitious young women whom you’ve inspired all over the world.” The list was divided into four categories – leaders, thinkers, artists and heroes. 4. Police: Woman bites man after being called fat

LINCOLN, Neb. – Police say a 24-year-old man is missing a chunk of his right ear that was bitten off by a woman who didn’t like being called “fat.” Police spokeswoman Katie Flood said officers were called to a Lincoln hospital around 3:25 a.m. Wednesday to talk to the injured man. He told them that he’d been bitten at a party. Flood said officers later learned that the injured man and two others had been arguing with other people at the birthday party. Flood says the man told 21-year-old Anna Godfrey that she was fat. Officers said Godfrey then tackled the man and took a bite. Flood said the ear chunk was not found. Godfrey was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and remained in custody Wednesday. Source,

3. Lawsuit: Fla. Hotel Agreed to Guests’ Racist Requests

LONDON (April 23) — The five-star Ritz-Carlton hotel in Naples, Fla., boasts on its website that it offers “impeccable service.” Now the glitzy hotel has been accused of being too eager to please, after it allegedly agreed to its guests’ racist demands.
According to a lawsuit filed by hotel waiter Wadner Tranchant, 40, the Ritz-Carlton honored a British family’s request not to be served by “people of color” or with “foreign accents.” Naples News reported that the head of the family, Rodney Morgan, made the request during his check-in around Feb. 28. His requests were apparently logged on a computer at the demand of managing director Edward Staros, and accompanied by a note stating that the Rodney Morgan family were “very, very prejudiced.” The Naples Ritz-Carlton, has been slapped with a lawsuit by a waiter who alleges it acceded to a British family’s request not to be served by “people of color” or with “foreign accents.” Tranchant — a black Haitian who has been working at the hotel for 15 years — claims that two weeks into the Morgans’ stay, his supervisors stopped him from serving them at the beachside hotel’s Grill restaurant. That left him feeling humiliated and intimidated, his lawyers argue, causing stress that eventually resulted in medical and psychological treatment. He is seeking at least $75,000 in damages from the Ritz-Carlton Co. for alleged violation of the U.S. Civil Rights Act.
“My client was prevented from waiting on this couple because he was black,” said attorney Michael McDonnell. He added that he had nine witnesses willing to testify about the racist request. And the lawsuit claims that this wasn’t the first discriminatory demand made by a guest, and honored by the hotel. “Other employees of defendant Ritz also encountered similar treatment on multiple occasions,” the complaint reads.
In a statement, the hotel chain said, “The Ritz-Carlton cannot comment on pending litigation but can say the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company does not allow discriminatory actions by employees or guests.”

2. NFL GM Asked Dallas Draft Pick if his Mom was a Hooker

The sports world was abuzz today over a situation between Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland and newly-drafted Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. In a meeting the two had before the NFL draft, Ireland had asked Bryant if his mother was a prostitute. Ireland apologized to Bryant on Tuesday after it was reported by Yahoo! Sports and ended up all over the blogosphere and sports radio. “My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I’m considering drafting,” Ireland said in a statement. “Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions. Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him. “I appreciate his acceptance of that apology, and I told him I wished him well as he embarks on his NFL career.” Bryant’s background received extensive scrutiny from NFL teams before the draft. He was taken by the Cowboys with the 24th pick in the first round last Thursday. “My mom is not a prostitute,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. “I got mad – really mad – but I didn’t show it.” On Wednesday, the NFL Player’s Association said the treatment of Dallas’ first-round pick and other draft picks needs to be conducted in a professional manner. “We need to make sure the men of this league are treated as businessmen,” NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said in a statement. “During interviews, our players and prospective players should never be subjected to discrimination or degradation stemming from the biases or misconceptions held by team personnel. NFL teams cannot have the free reign to ask questions during the interview process which can be categorized as stereotyping or which may bring a personal insult to any player as a man.” Bryant has yet to comment on the incident since Ireland apologized. 1.    White Supremacist Convicted in Obama Assassination & Beheading Plot Gets 10 Years

The white supremacist skinhead convicted in a bizarre plot to culminate a nationwide killing spree of African Americans with the assassination of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Authorities charged that Paul Schlesselman and an accomplice had hatched a plot to kill 88 African American, behead 14 other Blacks and conclude with the assassination of Obama.
The numbers 88 and 14 are said to have some special significance in the growing white supremacist movement. The 19-year-old Schlesselman was from West Helena, Arkansas.
He pleaded guilty this past January. His accomplice, Daniel Cowatt of Bells, Tennessee, has also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. The relatively light sentence appears to flow from the fact that the scheme never got far beyond the planning stages. However, the pair had access to weapons and had made contact with white supremacist or skinhead groups across the country to provide hiding places as they went on their cross-country killing spree. They had planned to kill President Obama in 2008. (source: Taylor Media Services –

  1. Shack Says:

My responses to today’s list will be full of references to the maternal heritage of several. This represents my way of conveying the “ultimate insult” to a group or individual and should be no surprise to anyone who knows me or has read any of my comments on this blog.

Story 10 – undoubtedly the child will benefit from the vast resources of Ms. S.B.

#9 – although he has surrounded himself with supposedly intelligent Anglos for sometime, his actions reflect that he is nothing more than a very dumb Negro!

#8 – Apparently its true what they say…The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree!

#7 – As long as the singer/group has been around, you’d think he’d know not to try and avoid paying taxes.

#6 – Good move on Mama Katherine’s part. Still say Jermaine should be horse whipped for having kids by a woman who’d already had kids by his brother (Randy)! Perhaps this explains why Randy is not a part of the “new” Jacksons.

    #5 – And Time Magazine’s point is???

#4 – Is Ms. Godfery related to Mike Tyson?

#3 – See faults on both sides. The hotel should not accomodate such requests and the Haitian employee seems to be a little opportunistic. Plus he’ll never win such a suit!

#2 – If I were Dez. B., I would have fired back by asking Jeff I. the SAME Question….!!!

#1 – How would the simpleton basterds, Mr. Schlesselman and Cowatt feel if The Brothas shot and beheaded both their mothers!

  2. Shonee Says:

#10 – what a beautiful baby boy Sandra Bullock has adopted!

    #s 9, 8, & 7 – No comment

#6 – Good move Mother! The ex-daughter-in-law should be living in her place anyway…and it should not be owned by the Jackson estate but let Jermaine support those kids! BOOOO to Jermaine for being with the same woman his brother has fathered children with. I said it before in another post relating to the Jackson family, Jermaine is out to prove something. He is now married to another woman, who caters to his every whine/wimper, ugh!

#5 – I think the only influential person who deserves to be on that list is President Obama. We are familiar with everyone else on the list, select some fresh faces Time magazine.

    # 4 – She shouldve went for the tongue not the ear, lol! Seriously, name calling can really hurt people and bring their self-esteem down.

#3 – Is there any law/policy that says if a customer makes a request like that, they can be refused service?

#2 – Best comment Shack! Is his mother’s profession going to impact him playing the game?

  3. Shack Says:

Ms. Shonee – Thx. for the kudo on #2 but from what I’ve heard she was Not a pro…. She did have drug abuse and selling issues, had him at age 15 and did some time but a pro… she was not.

So his questioning was to see how DB would react. Everyone (in the NFL)agrees there was a better way to ask/inquire about his family life.

And now Ireland is all apologetic but had it been me, I’d put it right back on him and asked about Mrs. Ireland and see how HE Reacted!

  4. Lenora Dorsey Says:

#10. I think Little Louis deserves a mommy like Sandra Bullock. I am very happy for her. She made a wise choice to divorce. I can work on anything except violence and cheating. #6. Mrs. Jackson made a wise choice. Those other grandchildren are probably jealous of Michael’s children moving in and their position in the family. #4. I bet he will think twice before he calls someone fat again. #3. I love the Ritz Carlton. I wish this was not a true story. #2. Rude. #1. I’m glad they were found out before they attempted to put their plan in motion.

  5. Southern Girl Says:

A lot of interesting events happened this week. Some good, some not so good………

  6. Trisha Says:

#10. Any story about a child being taken care of and loved is a good story.
    9,8,7. Not much to comment.
    6. Why is this Grandma dealing with all these kids
    5. Tired of celebrity influence, everyone but Obama please sit down.
    4. Men you should know better that to comment on weight…and stay away from age too.
    3. Shack…I agree the hotel is at fault for giving in to racist demands but is the employee being opportunistic or his he willing to take a stand for all people of color?
    2. Very stupid and disrespectful, regardless of his mothers backround he made it into the NFL. That alone is a feat.
1.10 years seems a bit short….lets see what that other guy gets for invading Sarah Palins privacy.

  7. Joi :-) Says:

    Great stories Leon! :-)

    10. God bless S.B., and her beautiful baby boy. I’m happy that she has someone to love her unconditionally. Her baby boy will bring sooo much joy to her life. U go gurl!!!! and baby boy!!! :-)
    9. What can I say? I hope IF he gets another chance, he will do better.
8.Come on Tupacs ma!!!! KEEP YO STASH AT HOME! and DON’T SELL IT!!!! come on ma’am, what’s the real issue? If you wanna “partake”, MOVE TO CALI, and get a “card”. (if you aren’t already there). Why would she be sellin it? That baffles me…
    7. Ron, good luck man!!!!
    6. YUK!!!!! why would I not only want my brothers chick, but his wife? Plus kids…. ugh… YUK & NO THANK U!!!! and why would she want him? It looks like she wanted A JACKSON for the name & the check. Make that checks. And what kinda woman is she, that she would want to live with her X-dudes mother??? Good for you Katherine!!!! It’s time!!!!!
4.Yuk, but sometimes a lessons gotta hurt in order for you to learn it. Bet he won’t do that again. Next time it may be his tongue or his life. And didn’t yo momma teach you, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything?”
3.SHAME ON YOU RITZ!!! U WON’T BE GETTIN MY LOOT ANY-MORE! I don’t know if that worker is out for “his”, but something that was not right was said in reference to being served by “others”.
    2. I’m going to say SHAME ON U NFL GM!!! You could have asked it better than that, IF you truely felt that it was relevant. And I’m going to say this, my honey is a retired NFL Player, they want to know if there is anything that is going to interfere with you at gametime. Whether that be your friends, girlfriend/wife, associates, or mother. Sorry…. But there is enough pressure and stress in the locker room, yo mamma and her POSSIBLE extra curricular activities need not be one of them. It becomes a distraction. But there was a way to ask. And why didn’t they ask BEFORE the draft??? That may have made a difference in his decision, as to whether or not go there.
    1. UNEVOLVED CREATURE!!!!! I feel sorry for him! Its tough livin in darkness. Come into the light buddy!!!
    Have a great weekend all…. :-)

  8. Joi :-) Says:

Okay ya’ll, I had to come back and share this… It pertains to story #4. Earlier, I went to an appearance with my honey, and decided to make HIM a plate as he signed autographs. A guy walks past me and says, “don’t worry you’ll EVENTUALLY lose all the weight that you’re gonna gain if you eat all that”. I smiled gently as I thought to myself, “fella didn’t you hear about the last dude that did that?” And my other thought was “I should tackle yo a@#$ right now and chew off your ear”. LOL!!! Considering it was my honeys appearance, I decided that wouldn’t be a good look for me… OR HIM!!!! My heart laughed at its core though!!! :-) And now that I think about it, I guess it also pertains to the story about the NFL Player and his “momma question”… Had I jumped on that dude, before anyone booked my honey for another appearance, they would ask “IS YO WIFE COMIN’?” LOL!!!! :-)

  9. Shack II Says:

Ms. Trisha – My feeling is if he was really “trying to make a stand” then just quit and protest outside of the hotel…there is a group of minorities who do that every day here in Dallas outside of a hotel (not nearly as fancy as the Ritz C.)but I don’t know what the issue is. I’m no lawyer but the fact he’s attempting to sue for $75K is seemingly self serving + I don’t see that suit being successful.

Ms. Joi – I like that term “UNEVOLVED CREATURE” and I may use it to describe some of these kooks. I currently use the term “Simpleton Basta/erds” but I like your description better. That being said, I DON”T FEEL SORRY FOR THEM IN THE LEAST!!! I’m Not a violent person but if I encounter one of his type, I’m TAKING HIM OUT – with the quickness!

Hate to say it but they need to put all these types on an island AND BLOW IT UP!

  10. Leon Says:

    Joi…Very funny! lol
    Thanks for sharing!!!

  11. Trisha Says:

Shack, yes he could quit his job and protest out front but then he is right where they want him, outside and unemployed. Win or lose with the suit he is taking a stand.
