One of the most exciting plays in the NBA is the slam dunk. The slam dunk fires up your team, excites the crowd, and can change the momentum of a game. Over the years, I’ve seen quite a few exciting dunks, but the ones that stand out the most are the ones when a player dunks on an opposing player. This electrifying dunk on an opposing player is often referred to as the player being posterized, a most embarrassing moment for anyone who has experienced being dunked on. Well, speaking of being dunked on, listed below are my Top 10 Greatest NBA Dunks of all time by African American players. After you view the pictures, be sure you check out the exciting video of these incredible dunks.

  4. Leon Says:

Glad you liked the list Terrance.

  5. Shack Says:

#10 – He really slammed on Horace Grant. MJ was the secondary defender
    #9 – Poor Alton
#8 – If Dirk could defend (move his feet) poor Shawn wouldn’t have gotten what he deserved
#s7,4 and 3 – Even the greats can get “posterized”
    #6 – That’s just embarrasing
#5 – Best described as “vicious”
    #2 – Simply beautiful
    #1 – That’s just nasty

  6. Marcus Says:

A great list, Leon. I am a bit surprised though not to see guys like Dominique Wilkins, Shaq, and Dwight Howard on the list as well as no dunks from the slamdunk contests.

Excellent work compliling all those clips!

  7. Leon Says:

Thanks for positive feedback Marcus! I appreciate it.
And in regards to not have any dunks from the slam-dunk contests, stay tuned. They will have their own top 10.

  8. Shadow Says:

i like it but i dont agree with wades dunkon there. it was a nice dunk, but vince carters dunk on alonzo mourning should replace it

  9. Trisha Says:

Another great list, not to mention I love the youtube clips. Dr. J’s dunk should be number 1 in my book.

  10. Leon Says:

Thanks Trisha! I’m especially glad that you like the youtube clips. I’ll have to include more of them.

  11. rod moore Says:

Shawn Bradley is the biggest waste of height EVER!

  12. Shack Says:

Yeah I agree…the “Mormon Monster” was quite pathetic. At least Manute Bol could shoot 3s!

  13. Straaw Says:

Yeah! It’s a cool list. whatever u would’ve come up with it will still be subjective. Dominique has dunked on so many. David “Skywalker” Thompson dunked on so many. Darryl Dawkins. Umph! Scottie Pippen on Patrick Ewing in ’94 playoffs! Which Jordan on Ewing? He did it a few times. Corey Brewer Rocked Derek Fisher earlier this past season. Sprewell Banged on Scottie in the all-star game in ’97. Man so many. Maybe i’ll submit a college dunk list too.

  14. Shonee Says:

Awesome list Leon! Why after the dunk some of them land on top of the opponents shoulders?

I remember the ’93 NBA Playoffs between Knicks and Bulls; then it was ruined by that White Bronco vehicle traveling on the highway, smh

  15. Shonee Says:

Forgot to add: @ Straaw…my brother loved David “Skywalker” Thompson! In fact, I’ve never heard anyone else mention his name before.

  16. Leon Says:

Thanks Shonee, I’m glad you liked the list.
And to answer your question… when a player dunks, sometimes the opposing player attempts to block the dunk and lands underneath the basket or underneath the dunker. So when the dunker comes down, he often lands on top of the opposing player.
Another scenario is when a player dunks the ball and the opposing player is near the basket and doesn’t move or get out of the way, the dunker will land on the opposing player.

  17. watch movies online Says:

Cool blog, I hadn’t come across http://www.blacktoptens.com previously during my searches!
    Carry on the great work!

  18. BB Says:

7,8 are weak since the opposing players were not even getting up to protect the basket. Kobe on YaoMing, Carter on Mutombo and Zo should be higher in this list.
