9. Venus Williams’ French Open outfit causes a stir

HOWARD FENDRICH, AP Tennis – Whistles and whispers circulated through the stands at Court Suzanne Lenglen on Sunday, a reaction brought about not by Venus Williams’ play at the French Open, but rather by her outfit. With a lacy, black overlay giving it the illusion of being see-through, and bright red trim on the bodice, Williams’ corset-like get-up made her look as if she were ready to perform in a 19th century Parisian cancan chorus line. Williams said the corset-like outfit’s overlay and skin-toned undergarments are “about the illusion of bareness.” “Lace has never been done before in tennis, and I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time,” she said. “The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely for me a lot more beautiful.” Her game, a mix of power and niftier-than-usual footwork on this day, was very 21st century, and befitting a star of the show. The red clay of Roland Garros never has been Williams’ best stage — her seven Grand Slam titles all came at Wimbledon or the U.S. Open. At this year’s French Open, she is assured of at least one more performance, thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over former top-10 player Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the first round.

8. Report: Elin Wants $750M in Divorce from Tiger

During negotiations over a possible divorce agreement with Tiger Woods, Elin Nordegren is reportedly seeking full custody of their two children and “an estimated $750 million package.”
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker is reporting that Tiger has demanded a strict — and lifelong — confidentiality clause that would bar her from disclosing information about their marriage in interviews or books. There have been previous reports that Woods and Nordegren are working toward a joint-custody arrangement, followed by subsequent rumors that the two had stopped speaking to each other. Additionally, there were reports earlier this week that Elin just enrolled in Hamilton Holt school at Rollins College in Florida, and had taken four trips without Woods in the past five weeks – including to Sweden, where she bought a secluded house last year. 7. Ojay’s  Singer Walter Williams has Multiple Sclerosis

O’Jays member Walter Williams, 67, has revealed that he has been suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS) since the age of 39. The singer, 67, decided to go public with the news in honor of World MS Day on May 26, hoping his revelation will let other MS sufferers know that it’s possible to lead an active life despite the often disabling disease. “I have done well with MS and I want other sufferers to know that they too can lead a normal life,” Williams told Reuters in a telephone interview. “Why now? Well, it’s a good time to come out and let people know there is medication for this now that helps a great deal. When I was diagnosed they told me I had 20 years to live and there was no cure but it has all changed.” Williams, a founding member of the The O’Jays, first noticed numbness in his feet, legs and torso while on tour in 1983. At 39, he was diagnosed with the inflammatory autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. Read more & watch video

A North Georgia teacher is on paid administrative leave and could lose her job after allowing four of her high school students to don mock Ku Klux Klan outfits for a class project. The sight of people in Klan-like outfits upset some black students at the school and led at least one parent to complain, reports the Associated Press. 2. Ex-Chicago Cop on Trial for Torturing Confessions From 100 Black Men

Darrell Cannon was asleep with his common-law wife and son in 1983 when a group of white police officers burst into his Chicago apartment. They said he knew something about a homicide, threw him in the back of a police car and took him to a secluded location.
In an effort to get details, the officers first performed a mock lynching. When that didn’t work, one of the officers pretended to load a pump-action shotgun, put the shotgun in Cannon’s mouth and pulled the trigger three times.
“One of them said, ‘Go ahead, blow that nigger’s head off.’ And that’s when [officer] Peter Dignan forced the shotgun in my mouth. And he said, “You’re not going to tell me what I want to hear? You’re not going to tell me?” I said, “No.” And that’s when he pulled the trigger,” said Cannon. “The third time they did it, when I heard the trigger pull, in my mind, I thought he was blowing the back of my head off, because the hair on the back of my head stood straight up when I heard that click.” Read more & watch videos
