Aretha Louise Franklin (born March 25, 1942) is a singer, songwriter and pianist commonly referred to as The Queen of Soul. Although renowned for her soul recordings, Franklin is also adept at jazz, rock, blues, pop, R&B and gospel music. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Franklin No. 1 on its list of The Greatest Singers of All Time. Franklin is one of the most honored artists by the Grammy Awards, with 18 Grammys to date, which include the Living Legend Grammy and the Lifetime Achievement Grammy. She has scored a total of 20 No. 1 singles on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart, one of which also became her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100: “Respect” (1967).” Since 1961, Franklin has scored a total of 45 “Top 40″ hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1987, Franklin became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Franklin was also the only featured singer at the 2009 presidential inauguration for Barack Obama. So, without further ado, here’s my list of the Top 10 Greatest Songs by The Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin.

Excellent, Beautiful, Great Category and thanks for this Top Ten. Can’t argue with this ranking and beleive all with agree with No. 1. I would have “Rock Steady” as a close #2 but these songs and rankings are so close it would be splitting hairs. Assume you have “Sweet Inspiration,” “Do Right” and “Jump To It” just outside the TT?

  2. grapevine Says:

Leon, since I am a huge Areatha Franklin fan, I had to jump on this early. Where as I agree with most songs on this list, “Freeway Of Love” dosen’t belong. There are at least 10-songs more deserving. Here are a few: “Say A Little Prayer”, “Since You’ve Been Gone”, “Call Me”, “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”, “Aint No Way.”

  3. rod moore Says:

What no Bridge over troubled waters or Say a little Prayer? Those songs could easily replace Freeway of love & Til you come back to me in my opinion but its your list not mine. Peace

  4. Shack Says:

All – WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT PHOTO OF THE QUEEN WITH SEEMINGLY TWO GREEN LOOKING STATES (including Texas)ON HER BREASTS I saw while listening to “Spanish Harlem”????

  5. Lenora Dorsey Says:

I LOVE THIS ONE! Aretha is the queen…I think the list is great and the order is fine. My favorite Aretha song is Angel (Gotta Find Me an Angel). Was that song considered?

  6. Leon Says:

Good point Shack! It was hard to rank the songs because they are all almost equally great. And the other songs you mentioned rounded out the top 15.

  7. Leon Says:

Grapevine, I can’t argue with the songs you mentioned. As I stated to Shack, Aretha has so many great ones, it’s not easy deciding her top 10 greatest.

  8. Leon Says:

    Thanks Lenora!
By the way, I don’t remember Angel. I will have to find it and listen to it to refresh my memory.

  9. Trisha Says:
