Out of the dozens of memorable NFL Player Nicknames, this list is comprised of my top 10 favorites. Please keep in mind that the order of the list is not based on who was the better player, but based on who had the catchiest, most memorable nickname. And one final note, initials of players, i.e. T.O., O.J., etc., were not counted as nicknames. So, without further ado, let the top 10 debate begin.

10. Jerome “The Bus” Bettis

9. O.J. “The Juice” Simpson

8. Ed “Too-Tall” Jones

7. Craig “Ironhead” Hayward

6. Eugene “Mercury” Morris

5. Adam “Pacman” Jones

4. “Prime Time” Deion Sanders

3. Billy “White Shoes” Johnson

2. William “Refrigerator” Perry

1. “Mean” Joe Greene

How could you omit Deacon Jones and Sweetness? Also Dick “Night Train” Lane, and Rocket Ishmael.

    Hey ya’ll! :-)
Nice list Leon! :-) There were 3 players on the list that I had never heard of. Too Tall Jones (heard the “saying” before, but I never knew that he is/was a real person). You do learn something new everyday! :-) Thanks Leon! :-) I’ve NEVER heard of “White Shoes”, and “Mercury”. Mean Joe Green, I had heard of, but I didn’t know he was a N.F.L. Player. Everyone else I have heard of. Great list Leon! :-)

All – Had jury duty yesterday and just reviewed this list. Great list I can’t contribute much else but does anyone remember Leons favorite Blaxploitation actor and former KC Chief, Fred “The Hammer” Williamson famous for getting knocked out in the SB game against the Packers.

  12. Lenora Dorsey Says:

Shack – I definitely remeber Fred”The Hammer” Williamson. I knew he was a football player and I used to run to those movies. The good old 70′s :-) .
